Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters

Twenty millennia after humanity’s defeat, Earth is no longer a human world—vast numbers of predatory creatures roam freely across the planet’s surface. The few survivors drift through deep space aboard the same vessel that carried them away long ago, and dwindling supplies force a hard choice: keep searching for a new, habitable world, or risk everything on a return to their ruined home. The debate pivots on an anonymous essay proposing a possible vulnerability in Godzilla—the force that drove humanity from Earth.

The theory’s author, Haruo Sakaki, lost his parents to Godzilla as a child and has grown into a man consumed by vengeance. Taking command of the effort to reclaim Earth, he leads a mission to confront the “king of monsters” and end the threat for good. Yet the planet has changed profoundly in humanity’s absence, and the pressures of survival threaten to expose darker impulses within the tight-knit remnants of their community.
