Midnight Occult Civil Servants

In Shinjuku’s ward office, the Nocturnal Community Relations Division handles disputes and incidents involving occult beings that most people never notice. New recruit Arata Miyako joins the team and is introduced to his coworkers, Theo Himezuka and Kyouichi Sakaki, as he’s thrown into the division’s after-hours work.

On his very first night in the field, Arata learns that the supernatural creatures he once dismissed as fiction are real—and discovers he’s uniquely able to understand their inhuman language. Matters grow stranger when a tengu addresses him as Abe no Seimei, a famed exorcist from the Heian era, a name Arata barely recognizes. As his ability and the mistaken identity spread among the night’s residents, Arata begins digging into the connection, only to find that mediating with mythic beings carries real risks—and that his gift may create problems of its own.
