Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari

In *Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari*, saenome serve as mediators who seal spirits that take up residence in everyday objects. These beings—called tsukumogami—are usually harmless, and most cases are resolved through calm negotiation before a seal is placed.

Hyouma Kunato, however, can’t bring himself to treat any tsukumogami peacefully after a past encounter with a deadly spirit left him scarred. He meets every one of them with force, a habit his grandfather Zouhei deems unfit for an heir to the clan. To correct his course, Zouhei orders Hyouma to live with Botan Nagatsuki, a young woman whose household includes six tsukumogami, with the threat of excommunication if he refuses.

Still driven by the need to find the spirit that stole everything from him, Hyouma agrees—only to find his convictions tested as he shares a home with the very beings he despises. When shadowy groups of malicious spirits begin to unsettle the boundary between worlds, he must earn Botan’s trust and confront the hatred he holds toward her enigmatic family.
