Case File nº221: Kabukicho

Neon-soaked and unruly, Kabukichou on Shinjuku’s east side dazzles on the surface while keeping its darker corners well hidden. John H. Watson, who works at a university hospital on the west side, comes to the district searching for a detective to consult on a strange case—an errand that leads him to the Pipe Cat, an underground bar that doubles as a gathering spot and job board for Shinjuku’s top investigators. Among the regulars is the standout talent: Sherlock Holmes.

Watson arrives just as talk centers on Jack the Ripper, a notorious serial killer tied to an ongoing investigation. After a turn of events pulls him deeper into the detectives’ orbit, Watson ends up driving Sherlock to the scene of a murder believed to be the Ripper’s work, where he watches Sherlock piece together the truth with startling clarity—along with a level of eccentricity Watson can’t ignore.

Still seeking help with his own problem, Watson keeps turning to Sherlock and is gradually swept into a world of cases far beyond everyday logic. As he follows Sherlock through Kabukichou’s tangled streets and secrets, Watson begins to glimpse the district’s real nature—and the unsettling mystery at the heart of his personal case.
