Vampires have stalked the night for centuries, living off the life force of unsuspecting humans. Karin Maaka, however, stands out even within her own vampire household. Since childhood she has dealt with polycythemia, a rare condition that makes her body generate too much blood; the buildup leaves her weak and dizzy and often ends in sudden nosebleeds.

To cope, Karin has to “offload” that surplus onto strangers—an odd fix that leaves her recipients feeling brighter and more upbeat afterward. Her siblings, the quiet but caring Anju and her flirtatious older brother Ren, help keep the situation under wraps by tampering with the memories of anyone affected. Karin’s careful routine starts to fray when a transfer student, Kenta Usui, begins to notice her strange habits, and her blood responds to him in ways she can’t ignore.
