Rurouni Kenshin

In the closing days of the Bakumatsu, the feared assassin Hitokiri Battousai helped shape Japan’s future—then vanished as the Meiji era began and the country turned toward restoration. His name lingers in rumor and legend, even as the fighting fades into history.

Years later in Tokyo, the soft-spoken wanderer Kenshin Himura crosses paths with Kaoru Kamiya, who struggles to keep her family dojo afloat. Kaoru is hunting a man claiming to be Battousai, a killer who terrorizes the streets while falsely using the Kamiya Kasshin-ryu, the life-affirming sword style created by her father. Kenshin steps in to stop the impostor and help restore the dojo’s honor—while hiding a truth that soon comes to light: he is the real Battousai.

Though shaken, Kaoru is moved by Kenshin’s resolve to atone for his past by protecting others without taking lives, and she offers him a place at the dojo. Before long, the peace he seeks is threatened as old sins and new foes test the limits of his vow.
