Anne Shirley

Eleven-year-old orphan Anne Shirley has been passed from home to home, never quite finding the sense of belonging she longs for. Her fortunes shift when she’s sent to Green Gables, a quiet farm in Avonlea run by the elderly siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert—only for everyone to realize a mistake has been made. Expecting a boy to help with farm work, the Cuthberts instead meet a spirited girl with a vivid imagination and a dramatic streak.

Though uncertainty hangs over her arrival, Anne’s bright mind, lively energy, and natural warmth gradually soften Marilla and Matthew’s doubts. As she begins to put down roots, Anne encounters new experiences for the first time, from going to school to forming close friendships, learning along the way what it means to grow up amid both small joys and real challenges.
