On the continent of Cruzon, nearly everyone can manipulate quartz—except Rygart Arrow. Labeled an “un-sorcerer,” he grows up as an outsider, yet still forms close bonds with Hodr and Sigyn, the future king and queen of Krisna, and with Zess, younger brother to the Athens Commonwealth’s Secretary of War.

Years later, tensions between Krisna and Athens erupt into open conflict. While in Binonten, Krisna’s capital, Rygart learns that the very trait that set him apart allows him to operate an ancient Golem—something quartz users cannot do. When Zess takes part in an Athenian assault on the city, Rygart enters the fight, hoping his unexpected role can help bridge the widening divide between the two nations.
