Otaku no Video

Loosely inspired by the circumstances surrounding Gainax’s beginnings, *Otaku no Video* offers a comedic yet reflective look at otaku culture from multiple angles. Takeshi Kubo starts out as an ordinary young man, but after being pulled into an otaku circle, he gradually adopts their passions and worldview—until he leaves his old life behind to pursue an unlikely ambition: becoming the “Otaking,” the king of otaku.

Interwoven throughout are live-action interview segments featuring real otaku, exploring the realities of hardcore fandom. The spotlight extends beyond anime and manga to include sci-fi devotees, military enthusiasts, and other corners of Japanese geek culture.
