Synopsis
Yato and Yukine have repaired their bond as god and Regalia, and the penniless deity is back to taking stray requests for a five-yen offering—still chasing the dream of gaining enough followers to earn a grand shrine of his own. Hiyori Iki, whose soul remains unsteady, tries to keep moving forward with everyday life as she prepares for high school.
That fragile calm is shaken when Yato’s tangled past with Bishamon, the goddess of war, comes back to the surface. Bishamon’s long-held grudge sparks brutal confrontations, and the situation grows even more complicated through Kazuma—her most trusted Regalia—who carries a debt to Yato. With lives caught in the crossfire, the only way through may be to uncover the truths behind old mistakes.
Otaku Consensus
Noragami Aragoto is widely regarded as a sharper, more emotionally loaded sequel that deepens the series’ Shinto-flavored urban fantasy through a revenge-driven conflict and stronger character drama—especially around Bishamon and Kazuma. Fans and critics consistently praise its escalation in intensity, “found family” pathos, and Bones’ slick action presentation backed by Taku Iwasaki’s punchy score. The most common reservations are that some viewers miss the broader mystery/world-expansion emphasis of earlier episodes and feel the season’s focus shifts as it goes, trading exploration for concentrated character fallout.
Why You Should Watch
If you like supernatural action with mythology baked into modern city life, Aragoto is the kind of sequel that rewards investment: it takes the series’ scrappy charm and pushes it into heavier emotional territory without losing its momentum. The hook isn’t just battles—it’s the messy, intimate bonds between gods and their Regalia, where loyalty and guilt cut as sharply as any blade. Bones delivers crisp swordplay and kinetic set pieces, while the show’s “found family” heart keeps the stakes personal even when the conflict turns brutal. Watch this if you want an urban fantasy that can pivot from humor to heartbreak, and if anti-heroes, revenge arcs, and character-driven drama are your fuel.
Key Characters
- YYato(VA: Kamiya, Hiroshi)
A broke, five-yen “delivery god” with an anti-hero edge, Yato’s charm comes from how his big dreams collide with the consequences of his reputation and past.
- YYukine(VA: Kaji, Yuuki)
Yato’s Regalia and emotional barometer, Yukine brings the series’ most human vulnerability—pride, fear, and the need to belong—into every fight.
- IIki, Hiyori(VA: Uchida, Maaya)
Caught between ordinary school life and the supernatural, Hiyori grounds the story with stubborn compassion and a perspective that refuses to let the gods stay distant myths.
- BBishamon(VA: Sawashiro, Miyuki)
A war goddess defined by devotion and wrath, Bishamon is fascinating because her strength is inseparable from the bonds she protects—and the grudges she can’t release.
What Makes It Stand Out
- 1
A character-first revenge narrative that uses mythology as emotional leverage: the conflict isn’t abstract good-vs-evil, it’s personal debt, loyalty, and the cost of protection.
- 2
Bones’ action staging leans into clean, readable swordplay and high-impact supernatural clashes, giving the season a more urgent, “escalates quickly” pace than many viewers felt in late Season 1.
- 3
Taku Iwasaki’s soundtrack amplifies both adrenaline and melancholy, helping the show pivot from comedic beats to heavy drama without feeling tonally random.
- 4
A strong ensemble dynamic—especially the Bishamon/Kazuma thread—expands the series beyond the core trio and turns the “gods and Regalia” concept into layered relationship drama.
- 5
Theme songs that sell the season’s intensity: THE ORAL CIGARETTES on the OP brings bite and momentum, while Tia’s ED supports the more reflective, emotional aftertaste.
