Synopsis

Meisei Academy High School still carries the name of a baseball legacy left by Tatsuya Uesugi, but the powerhouse reputation has faded over the 26 years since its glory days. With the program no longer matching its storied past, the school’s diamond is ready for a comeback.

Stepbrothers Souichirou and Touma Tachibana set their sights on restoring Meisei’s standing and reaching the National High School Baseball Championship. Now second-year students at Meisei Academy Middle School, they’re already standout talents—Souichirou excelling as a catcher and batter, while Touma possesses exceptional ability as a pitcher, even though he’s stopped taking the mound for reasons of his own. As they move up to high school, the two plan to form a battery and chase the national stage together.

Otaku Consensus

MIX earns a warmer verdict than its modest 7.22 MAL score and 69 AniList average suggest: Toshinori Watabe’s patient direction and Atsuhiro Tomioka’s series composition preserve Mitsuru Adachi’s signature blend of baseball, domestic comedy, and quiet emotional timing. Its strongest reception centers on the Tachibana family chemistry and the complementary lead battery, while the recurring criticism is that the wider roster of players lacks the same definition as the central trio.

Why You Should Watch

Watch MIX if you want an Adachi sports drama where the silence between pitches matters as much as the scoreboard. It scratches the same itch as Touch and Cross Game: understated baseball, school romance, dry comedy, and family history handled with restraint instead of explosive shounen escalation. Viewers who like Haikyuu!! for team chemistry but want a calmer, more nostalgic rhythm will find a different kind of sports satisfaction here. The appeal is not in flashy animation gimmicks or nonstop tournament momentum; it is in how OLM’s 24-episode adaptation lets conversations at home, clubroom politics, and old Meisei expectations accumulate into emotional pressure. If you want baseball with melancholy, humor, and legacy baked into the setting, MIX is built for you.

Key Characters

  • O
    Otomi Tachibana(VA: Maaya Uchida)

Otomi gives the series much of its household warmth, serving as a key reason fans describe MIX as a family drama as much as a baseball anime.

  • S
    Souichirou Tachibana(VA: Yuuma Uchida)

Souichirou stands out for his catcher’s intelligence and composed personality, making him the grounded counterweight in the central brother dynamic.

  • T
    Touma Tachibana(VA: Yuuki Kaji)

Touma’s appeal comes from the tension between obvious athletic talent and emotional restraint, a classic Adachi-style lead built around what he does not say.

What Makes It Stand Out

  • 1

MIX is a legacy continuation of Mitsuru Adachi’s Touch universe, returning to Meisei Academy 26 years after Tatsuya Uesugi’s era rather than functioning as a disconnected baseball story.

  • 2

OLM’s 24-episode production favors clean character acting, everyday school spaces, and baseball fundamentals over superpowered sports spectacle, matching the understated tone associated with Adachi adaptations.

  • 3

The series is structurally split between sports-club progression and merged-family domestic drama, a balance repeatedly singled out in viewer reactions as the show’s main emotional hook.

  • 4

AniList’s unusually prominent Meta tag at 60% reflects how openly the series converses with Meisei’s fictional baseball history and with audience memory of Adachi’s earlier work.

  • 5

The main cast is compact by sports-anime standards: the most praised dynamic is the complementary pairing of Souichirou and Touma, while criticism commonly targets the thinner development of the broader team roster.

Fun Facts & Trivia
