Since the BETA first invaded in 1973, Earth has been locked in a brutal war that has dragged on for three decades. High schooler Takeru Shirogane jolts awake from a harrowing dream of humanity’s downfall—only to realize it isn’t merely a nightmare, but fragmented memories from an alternate world. In that remembered timeline, the Alternative V plan becomes humanity’s final gamble: launching hundreds of thousands into space to safeguard the species while those left behind on Earth face a grim end.

Determined to avert that outcome, Takeru reports to a Yokohama military base that occupies the grounds of his former school and seeks out Professor Yuuko Kouzuki, the vice-commander spearheading Alternative IV. With only two months to train, he must learn to fight in Tactical Surface Fighters—towering humanoid combat machines—while using his incomplete foreknowledge to push Alternative IV forward and stop Alternative V from ever being set in motion.
