Synopsis

High schooler Michio Kaga tries out an odd online game he stumbles across, only to awaken in its world—dropped into a quiet rural village with special abilities and a sword far stronger than anything around him. Thrown into danger almost immediately, he fends off bandits and discovers there’s no option to log out.

Accepting that this reality is now his, Michio begins traveling to make a life for himself: delving into dungeons for profit, settling into the rhythms of a new world, and pursuing the harem he’s determined to build.

Otaku Consensus

Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World earns its split reputation honestly: Naoyuki Tatsuwa’s TV adaptation for Passione is most convincing when it slows down for dungeon routine, RPG-world logistics, and unapologetically adult erotic staging. Fans praise the unexpectedly careful worldbuilding, Makoto Uno’s character designs, and the source-faithful emphasis on erotic payoff; detractors point to repetitive dungeon material, low dramatic stakes, and a protagonist-viewpoint intimacy that many find more creepy than romantic.

Why You Should Watch

Watch this if you want an isekai that stops pretending the harem is just comic misunderstanding and makes erotic fantasy part of the show’s actual structure. It is closer to a dungeon-grinding adult fantasy than a power-of-friendship adventure: the appeal is in the routine of earning money, navigating rules, upgrading survival options, and then cashing that progression into intimate wish-fulfillment. Viewers who like the RPG bookkeeping of game-world anime but wish titles like Sword Art Online or Mushoku Tensei were more direct about sexual desire will find a very specific niche here. The tradeoff is equally clear: this is not built around grand arcs or escalating villain drama, and the labyrinth action is more utilitarian than spectacular.

Key Characters

  • M
    Michio Kaga(VA: Taku Yashiro)

Michio is discussed less as a traditional heroic lead than as a self-insert RPG optimizer whose calm, transactional approach to fantasy life is the source of both the show’s appeal and its strongest backlash.

  • R
    Roxanne(VA: Shiori Mikami)

Roxanne became the series’ central fan draw because the anime frames her with unusually direct erotic emphasis while still giving her enough warmth and competence to anchor the domestic side of the fantasy.

What Makes It Stand Out

  • 1

Passione’s adaptation leans into the material’s adult identity rather than sanding it down for a standard fantasy slot, matching the official content advisories for sexual content, nudity, and violence.

  • 2

The production pairs director Naoyuki Tatsuwa with series composer Kurasumi Sunayama and character designer Makoto Uno, adapting Douji Shiki’s original character designs into a visibly body-focused TV anime style.

  • 3

Its reception profile is unusually polarized for a mid-score seasonal isekai: MAL lists a 6.52/10 from 135,469 votes, while AniList sits at 63/100 with 1,694 favourites, and user reactions range from 1/10 condemnation to 10/10 praise.

  • 4

The show’s most praised craft element is not the premise but the granular worldbuilding: positive reviews repeatedly single out the rules, dungeon economy, and lived-in fantasy procedures as stronger than expected for an erotica-tagged harem anime.

  • 5

The most common structural criticism is repetition after the setup, with reviewers and web commentary calling the labyrinth material low-stakes and populated by generic monsters while the later episodes devote increasing time to sex scenes.
