Rika Furude and Satoko Houjou have spent their whole lives in the quiet village of Hinamizawa, where days with their close-knit group of friends pass in easy companionship. As they grow older, a turning point arrives: Rika is set on pursuing a new opportunity and wants Satoko to come with her, even as the choice threatens the balance they’ve always relied on.

Satoko agrees to follow, but the life Rika has been striving for soon creates distance between them. While Rika settles into her new world and forms new connections, Satoko becomes increasingly alone, aching for the simplicity of their shared past in Hinamizawa.
