Kobato Hanato is an openhearted, earnest girl with a single, deeply held wish: to reach a certain place, no matter what it takes. The path to that wish comes with an unusual condition—she must ease the pain of people facing difficult moments. Each time a wounded heart is helped toward healing, a small candy-like shard appears and is collected in a special bottle; when the bottle is finally filled, Kobato’s wish can be granted.

Guided by her stuffed-toy companion, Ioryogi, Kobato moves from one encounter to the next, meeting people weighed down by very different troubles. Whether it’s a child caught in the strain of family problems or a high school girl uncertain about love, Kobato’s gentle warmth and straightforward kindness become a quiet source of comfort.
