Synopsis

Nayu Hayama arrives at Ounan Middle School and immediately becomes the center of attention when she stumbles on her way to the stage for a speech, accidentally revealing her distinctive underwear to the entire freshman class. The mishap turns her first days into an unforgettable—and awkward—start to the school year.

Fascinated by underwear and convinced that a well-chosen collection matters for women of any age, Nayu sets out to share her convictions with classmates and even teachers. But her unusual enthusiasm quickly sparks uncomfortable rumors and draws the kind of attention she doesn’t want, leaving her determined “underwear revolution” facing more hurdles than she expected.

Otaku Consensus

Otaku Consensus: Chu-Bra!! survives as a niche 2010 Zexcs school ecchi because Yukina Hiiro's unfussy direction and Reiko Yoshida's compact 12-episode structure keep its underwear-as-education concept moving faster than its discomfort can fully settle in. Supporters value its unusually sincere puberty-and-fit advice and low-stakes club-comedy pacing, while the dominant criticism is that middle-school fanservice, tonal clashes, and modest comic payoff make it difficult to recommend beyond curious ecchi completists.

Why You Should Watch

Watch Chu-Bra!! if you want a school ecchi comedy that treats its own ridiculous specialty as a mini health class, not just a setup for reaction faces. It scratches a nearby itch to Seitokai Yakuindomo’s “adolescents talking about taboo stuff at school,” but swaps rapid-fire dirty wordplay for bra fittings, body-awareness talk, and clubroom embarrassment. The appeal is narrow: viewers who like fanservice with a didactic oddball hook, primarily female ensemble energy, and low-commitment 2010 TV pacing will get more out of it than anyone looking for sharp satire or romance. Its reputation is mediocre for a reason—the premise makes plenty of people bounce—but its specificity is exactly the selling point. Few ecchi comedies are this fixated on making the joke and the lesson occupy the same scene.

Key Characters

  • N
    Nayu Hayama(VA: Minori Chihara)

Nayu Hayama is the series’ lightning rod, with Minori Chihara voicing a cheerful true believer whose underwear advocacy turns the ecchi hook into an oddly earnest coming-of-age argument.

  • K
    Kiyono Amahara(VA: Youko Hikasa)

Kiyono Amahara gives the main group a sharper peer presence, helping the show read more like a primarily female school ensemble than a standard male-centered harem setup.

  • Y
    Yako Jinguuji(VA: Minako Kotobuki)

Yako Jinguuji broadens the club-comedy dynamic beyond Nayu’s single-minded enthusiasm, giving the classroom reactions more texture than simple shock or teasing.

  • H
    Hiroki Komachi(VA: Yuudai Satou)

Hiroki Komachi stands out as a main male character inside a series otherwise tagged around a primarily female cast, which changes the social temperature of its school-life comedy.

What Makes It Stand Out

  • 1

Chu-Bra!! is one of the rare ecchi TV anime with an AniList Educational tag attached at a significant 60%, reflecting how often viewer discussion singles out its bra-fitting, puberty, and body-care material rather than only its fanservice.

  • 2

The production credits Ryouko Nakano specifically for prop design, a more meaningful role here than in many school comedies because underwear is not just background decoration but the show’s recurring visual subject.

  • 3

Reiko Yoshida handles series composition, and the finished 12-episode run favors short-form school-club situations and practical themed episodes over a heavy romance arc or a long dramatic endgame.

  • 4

Yoshihisa Hirano’s music credit gives the series an unexpectedly notable staff point for a modest Zexcs ecchi comedy, pairing a specialized subject with a composer associated by anime fans with more theatrical scoring work.

  • 5

Its reception profile is sharply middle-of-the-road rather than cult-hit: MAL lists it at 6.2/10 from 22,945 votes with a rank around #9827, while AniList sits lower at 57/100 with only 79 favourites.

Fun Facts & Trivia

Fun fact 1
The anime is commonly listed under both Chu-Bra!! and Chuu Bra!!, and it aired as a winter 2010 TV series from January 4 to March 22 for a clean one-cour total of 12 episodes.
Fun fact 2
Yumi Nakata is credited as the original creator, while the anime adaptation was produced by Zexcs with Yukina Hiiro directing and Miyako Yatsu handling character design.
Fun fact 3
The main cast has several recognizable 2010-era voice names attached: Minori Chihara as Nayu Hayama, Youko Hikasa as Kiyono Amahara, Minako Kotobuki as Yako Jinguuji, Sayuri Yahagi as Haruka Shiraishi, and Yuudai Satou as Hiroki Komachi.
Fun fact 4
Contemporary and later viewer commentary repeatedly splits along the same line: defenders call it a surprisingly decent and educational ecchi, while critics describe the fanservice framing as off-putting before the comedy has time to win them over.
Fun fact 5
Its database footprint shows curiosity without broad devotion: MAL popularity places it around #3610, but the AniList favourites count of 79 signals a very small dedicated fanbase.
