With crime on the rise, Japan establishes Tokyo Butei High—an elite academy where “Butei,” armed detectives-in-training, sharpen their combat skills with the aim of becoming mercenary-like agents of justice. Among them is Kinji Tooyama, a curt, withdrawn former Assault Division student who has stepped away from the front lines and now focuses on logistics, hoping to keep a powerful yet embarrassing talent hidden.

That quiet routine collapses when Kinji is targeted by the notorious “Butei Killer.” He’s rescued by Aria Holmes Kanzaki, a top-ranked prodigy with a fierce personality, who quickly sees what Kinji can do—and insists he become her partner.
