Fifth-grader Takuya Enoki’s life is turned upside down after his mother dies in a car accident. With his father working long hours as a salaryman, Takuya is left to shoulder much of the day-to-day care for his baby brother, Minoru, learning quickly that growing up can arrive far too soon.

Between cooking, cleaning, soothing Minoru’s constant crying, and trying to set boundaries, Takuya struggles to balance responsibilities at home with school and the sight of his friends enjoying an easier childhood. As neighbors grow impatient and setbacks pile up, he keeps pushing forward—finding, in the process, a deeper understanding of what family can mean.
