Ayato Kamina’s quiet days as a Tokyo high schooler end abruptly when the city is struck by an assault from advanced fighter jets. In the confusion, he meets Haruka Shitow, who says she works with the organization TERRA—and delivers an impossible truth: Tokyo has been sealed inside a time-locked sphere known as “Tokyo Jupiter,” created by the Mulians, humanoid beings from another dimension, to isolate the city and seize it. TERRA has been working to pierce the barrier ever since.

Reeling from the revelation, Ayato runs and crosses paths with his classmate Reika Mishima, who guides him to the Shrine of Xephon, where a massive egg lies dormant. As Reika sings, something within Ayato responds, awakening the RahXephon and unleashing forces that tie him to the conflict between TERRA and the Mulians. With both sides closing in, Ayato is pushed to confront fractured memories, shifting truths, and the unsettling question of who he really is.
