Ushio & Tora (2015)

Ushio Aotsuki, a headstrong middle schooler and the son of an eccentric temple priest, brushes off his father’s warnings about youkai as superstition. Left to look after the temple while his father is away, Ushio’s routine chores take a startling turn when he discovers a fearsome creature in the basement—an infamous youkai named Tora, pinned in place by the legendary Beast Spear.

Tora demands to be freed from a seal that has held him for five hundred years, but Ushio refuses to trust him. When an abrupt surge of youkai threatens the temple and the people Ushio cares about, he’s forced into an uneasy alliance, keeping the Beast Spear close as his only leverage if Tora turns on him. Their encounter opens the door to a wider spiritual world, where Ushio learns just how dangerous the supernatural truly is.
