Modern-day Germany is thrown into chaos by the appearance of Amalgams—cybernetic monsters born from decaying flesh that can merge with machines to evolve new capabilities. In response, the Xenogenesis Assault Team (XAT) is established to contain the outbreaks while investigating a more alarming development: “amalgamated” humans who retain reason and are far more dangerous than the mindless creatures.

Joseph Jobson is one of these rare amalgamated individuals, able to wield his powers with complete control. Though he operates effectively on his own, a fateful clash with the newly transformed Amalgam Gerd Frentzen puts Joseph in XAT’s sights. Forced to stay ahead of the organization and search for allies, he awakens as the Blassreiter—said to be the most powerful Amalgam of all—and turns his strength toward uncovering the truth behind his past and the conflict consuming the country.
