Uncle from Another World

After being hit by a truck, Takafumi Takaoka’s uncle, Yousuke “Ojisan” Shibazaki, spends 17 years in a coma. When he finally wakes, he starts speaking an unfamiliar language and insists he lived in a fantasy realm called Gran Bahamal. Takafumi writes it off as delusion—until Ojisan casually proves his story by using magic to make a cup of water float.

With the unbelievable now undeniable, Takafumi takes on the task of bringing his uncle up to speed on nearly two decades of change: the modern internet, new tech, and even the outcome of the ’90s console war—news that hits especially hard for a devoted SEGA fan. Putting Ojisan’s otherworldly abilities to practical use, the two launch a YouTube channel and navigate the oddities of online fame, including comment sections and trolls, in their own offbeat way.
