In a world where a vast information network connects the globe, two realms have emerged: the tangible reality and the expansive virtual landscape known as the Wired. Soma Toru, a member of the rebellious hacking group Steppen Wolf, navigates this digital frontier with his comrades until a high-stakes operation leads to tragedy. During a daring attack on the UN forces' database, he loses his friend and leader, Nonomura Yuya, plunging him into a world of conflict and uncertainty.

Captured by the military, Toru finds himself coerced into joining an anti-hacker task force under the UN Security Force Information Administration Bureau. As he works alongside a diverse team, each driven by personal motives, Toru is relentlessly on the hunt for the individual responsible for Yuya's death. Amidst the chaos of ongoing confrontations between their group, the military, and various terrorist factions, seemingly disconnected events begin to intertwine, hinting at a larger, more significant occurrence drawing them all together.
