One Week Friends

Sixteen-year-old Yuuki Hase finally works up the nerve to talk to the girl he likes, Kaori Fujimiya, only to be met with the same curt refusal she gives everyone else. Quiet and withdrawn, Kaori keeps her distance from classmates and spends her breaks alone, including lunches on the school rooftop.

Yuuki begins visiting her there day after day, hoping that simple, steady time together will help her open up. As Kaori gradually lets him in, she suddenly pulls away again near the end of the week—until Yuuki learns the truth behind her guarded behavior: every Monday, Kaori’s memories of people close to her (aside from her family) are wiped, a lingering consequence of an accident in middle school. Refusing to let that be the end of their connection, Yuuki chooses to start over each week, asking the same question every Monday: “Will you be friends with me?”
