Moyashimon

Freshman Tadayasu Sawaki arrives at a Tokyo agricultural university with an unusual gift: he can see microorganisms with the naked eye. From fungi behind athlete’s foot to the yeast used in brewing alcohol, the microbes appear to him as tiny, chibi-like “companions,” turning the invisible world of bacteria and fermentation into something strangely familiar.

Initially indifferent to what he can do, Sawaki soon finds his talent drawing attention from the faculty—especially Professor Itsuki, whose work centers on fermentation. Surrounded by an offbeat mix of professors and classmates, he gradually begins to view his ability in a new light, as campus life makes the extraordinary feel almost ordinary.
