Night Is Short, Walk on Girl

Over the course of a single, surreal night that feels as long as a year, a quiet college student roams Kyoto in pursuit of a black-haired underclassman he can’t stop thinking about. He’s spent days engineering “chance” encounters—carefully arranging to bump into her as if it were fate—yet their connection stubbornly refuses to move forward.

The girl, meanwhile, embraces the idea that life is guided by destiny and throws herself into whatever the night offers, eager to collect new experiences and let the outcome unfold. When she learns that a cherished book from her childhood has surfaced at a secondhand shop, her wandering takes on a new direction. Seeing an opening, the student sets his sights on the same prize, hoping that getting to it first will finally give him the coincidence he’s been chasing.
