Mind Game

After witnessing Myon leap onto a subway at the last moment and suffer a horrific accident in the closing doors, Nishi unexpectedly reunites with his high school sweetheart. His feelings haven’t faded, but the meeting turns bittersweet when he learns she’s engaged. Hoping to face the situation head-on, Nishi agrees to meet her fiancé at her family’s yakitori restaurant—only for yakuza to burst in, and Nishi is killed while trying to stop them from assaulting Myon.

Death doesn’t end his story. Nishi awakens before a taunting, ever-shifting god who urges him to step into a portal and vanish, but he refuses and forces his way back to life. Armed with a sharper sense of purpose and foreknowledge of the attack, he turns the tables, shooting one of the gangsters with his own weapon before escaping in a stolen car with Myon and her sister. Directed by Masaaki Yuasa in his feature debut, *Mind Game* pairs wildly fluid visuals with a psychological, offbeat push toward living without regret.
