With Major Motoko Kusanagi gone, Public Security Section 9’s Batou takes the lead on a disturbing case: a series of brutal killings linked to malfunctioning gynoids—high-end sex robots. When one of the implicated units leaves Batou a cryptic message, the incidents begin to look less like simple defects and more like something engineered.

Partnered with Togusa, Batou follows a trail that points toward politically charged motives and the possibility of an illicit “ghost” at the heart of the crimes. As the investigation tightens, the boundaries between human and machine—and between what’s real and what’s perceived—grow increasingly unstable, pulling them into a dangerous conspiracy amid a future crowded with lifelike dolls and cold machinery.
