Ibuki Keita has lived under a cloud of bad luck for as long as he can remember—so severe that people around him meet tragic ends. Fearing what his presence might bring, he keeps others at a distance, even his childhood friend Akane, and resigns himself to a lonely, disgraced routine.

One night at his usual ramen shop, Keita encounters an enigmatic girl named Kuro, whose strength is far beyond ordinary. Calling herself a Mototsumitama, she introduces him to the concept of “Terra,” a life-energy divided among three identical individuals under the worldwide “Doppeliner System,” and to the role of the Coexistence Equilibrium in maintaining Terra’s flow. Keita dismisses it as nonsense—until he’s swept into a clash from that hidden world and, facing death, unknowingly forms a contract with Kuro that binds them together, forcing them to remain at each other’s side.
