Shangri-La

In a post-apocalyptic Japan scarred by constant earthquakes, ruined cities have been overtaken by lush greenery. With governments tightly controlling global emissions, society has splintered into deep class divisions and widening economic inequality. To replace Tokyo, Japan unveils “Project Atlas,” a planned utopian metropolis with room for only a limited number of residents—forcing everyone else to survive beyond its walls as refugees in the surrounding jungle.

Opposition rises against Atlas’s exclusive future, drawing together figures from sharply different worlds: Kuniko Houjou, heir to a renegade town; Mikuni, a mysterious, formidable child hidden away in a secluded temple; Kunihito Kusanagi, a soldier serving Atlas’s advanced monopoly; and Karin Ishida, a brilliant economic strategist with influence in markets worldwide. Standing in their way is Ryouko Naruse, who leads Atlas’s push to dominate this new era, as the resistance movement known as “Metal-Age” takes shape.
