Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG

After the “Laughing Man” incident is brought to a close, Japan’s newly elected Prime Minister, Youko Kayabuki, reinstates Public Security Section 9 to confront the ongoing danger of cyber-terrorism. With Major Motoko Kusanagi, Chief Daisuke Aramaki, Batou, and the rest of the team back in action, the unit returns to its mix of covert operations and high-level investigation.

A terrorist faction known as “The Individual Eleven” begins striking across Japan just as the government grapples with a separate emergency: refugees displaced by the Third World War seeking asylum. As Section 9 follows the trail, repeated encounters with Cabinet Intelligence Service figure Gouda Kazundo raise unsettling questions about who is steering events—and whether the refugee situation and the new wave of terror are more tightly linked than they first appear.
