Ichigo Momomiya hopes for a sweet ending to her date with her crush, Masaya Aoyama—until she suddenly dozes off after a bizarre vision of a cat entering her body. By the next day, her life feels even more off-kilter as she starts acting strangely feline, including an overwhelming craving for fish. When Masaya is attacked by a monster, Ichigo learns the reason: she can transform into the cat-eared magical girl Mew Ichigo.

After the rescue, researchers Ryou Shirogane and Keiichiro Akasaka explain that they infused her with Iriomote cat DNA as part of a plan to create a protector against an alien threat. Thrown into battles against these creatures, Ichigo quickly realizes she can’t carry the fight alone—and must track down four other girls like her before the invaders tighten their grip on Earth.
